This short film was made by eTown Videos to document the first Art In the Orchard in 2013. We estimate that the sculpture trail was visited by 15,000 to 18,000 people. The show received a prestigeous “Valley Buzz” award from the ECA+.
Several special events were held during the twelve week exhibition, including the opening ceremony, a full-moon torchlight trail walk with the trail’s poet laureate and the award ceremony and closing party.
Attendees were encouraged to vote for their favorite sculpture which was won by the large recycled metal dragon, “Dragonflies”, by Piper Glass and Steel of Northampton.
Art In the Orchard was paid for by many local businesses, direct donations by attendees and a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council as presented by the Easthampton Cultural Council. Key support from so many volunteers created this happening and guided its success.
Dedications:
AiO 2013 is dedicated to Robert Cole and Henry Peter Braen who left the living during this production. Robert Cole, a friend of Alane and Russell, from their time in Washington DC, graciously moved the sculpture DNAtor to AiO from Merriweather Post Pavillion to act as our “anchor piece” just before he died. Peter Braen was Russell’s father and Alane’s dear friend, employee and mentor. He came most weekends to volunteer and help guide people down the trail as they arrived. Peter met many folks here and cherished the time he spent talking with our neighbors and visitors during the past few seasons.
